Gratitude List 04/07/2012

Time to show my gratitude for all the benefits I enjoy in this world.  Tonight, I start with many, many thanks to all my friends in the blogosphere who have been supportive, understanding, candid, helpful, and kind.  When I needed their care most, they were right there with me.  For this I am so very grateful.

I am grateful that every day brings me another step on my healing path. I have moved through levels of understanding I would never have dreamed possible.  I am a different person as a result of these steps; I understand what forgiveness is, and release of resentment, and doing my best and accepting that my best does not equal perfection, nor should I expect it to.  I owe enormous thanks to Don Miguel Ruiz, the author of the Four Agreements, which inspire me and awaken in me a new understanding of myself, and of the world around me.

I am grateful for my family, who stand with me and by me as I learn this new way to live.  I give thanks that sister S. is enjoying a visit with her son-in-law, her daughter, and her adorable grandson.  I am grateful that Mom and I will be sharing Easter dinner, roast lamb, (an absolute favorite of ours,) with all the trimmings.  I am thrilled to say that I will reach another birthday within a month — 52 years old, and I never thought I’d see it, even after I passed the 40-year mark.  Hooray!

I am particularly grateful for the opportunity, before I was too old to appreciate it, of learning some humility, and understanding what it feels like just to be another link in the human chain.  And if you think that is a familiar way to feel — well, no.

So many other people, other things for which I’m grateful — my sisters, my health, my joy to be a part of this world and this life, the miracles of medicine which keep me living, my dream team and their help for me in realizing my literary dreams, so much more.  I am thankful to be alive.
